Yak mainly lives in mountainous area and the vast majority of the yaks live in Tibet, Nepal and Mongolia. The exceptional qualities of the yak's fiber make it a favorite of spinners & knitters worldwide. Yak wool is light, soft and smooth like goat cashmere, and it is incredibly warm. Officially, it is said yak wool has been used since 1970, but our older generation has already been using it for their household needs from ancient time.
Yak wool is an extremely durable and lightweight fiber that preserves heat in the winter yet breathes for comfort in warmer weather. It is completely odorless, does not shed and maintains warmth, even when wet. Unlike sheep's wool, the fiber is non-allergenic and non-irritating as it contains no animal oils or residue. The wool is very resistant to static electricity meaning garments a less likely to spark or cling to the body during dry conditions.
